Undergraduate Thesis Defense in Accounting: A Milestone in Students’ Academic Journey

On April 9 and 15, 2024, the Faculty of Accounting at Ton Duc Thang University successfully organized the Undergraduate Thesis Defense for students majoring in Accounting. With eight defense panels and over 60 participating students, the event marked not only a significant milestone in their academic journey but also an opportunity for them to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their studies.

Diversity in Research Topics

The thesis topics covered a wide range of essential areas in accounting and auditing, including:

• Accounting practices in enterprises: Providing insightful analysis of how accounting is applied in real-world business contexts.
• Audit procedures at independent auditing firms: Examining the audit process and the role of independent auditors in ensuring transparency in corporate financial reporting.
• Research-based topics: Reflecting students’ enthusiasm and dedication to exploring new ideas, proposing solutions, and contributing innovative perspectives to accounting issues.

Feedback and Evaluation from the Panel

The defense panels not only provided a platform for students to showcase their capabilities but also offered valuable, constructive feedback from academic experts. Key remarks from the panels included:

• Presentation: Emphasis on improving the overall format and structure of theses, including layout, citation styles, and attention to details such as spelling and title formulation.
• Content: The importance of clear theoretical foundations, as well as proper illustration and explanation of tables, figures, and documents. Students were also encouraged to prioritize substance over form in accounting analyses and to clarify measurement scales in research studies.
