Faculty of Accounting Holds Thesis Defense Panels for Summer Semester 2024–2025

Recently, the Faculty of Accounting at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) organized thesis defense panels for 123 accounting students. The defenses took place on August 22 (full day) and August 25 (afternoon), featuring a wide range of topics related to accounting practices in enterprises and auditing procedures across different areas.

The panels highly appreciated the students’ research efforts, ability to synthesize information, and academic rigor. Alongside these strengths, several areas for improvement were also noted. In terms of presentation, some reports contained errors in font usage, formatting, and line spacing; accounting terminology was not always used consistently; and in certain cases, students even misspelled the names of their supervisors or addressed thanks to the wrong person—mistakes that highlight the need for greater attention to detail.

In terms of content, some theses lacked a solid theoretical foundation, while the analysis sections did not fully capture the essence of the economic transactions being studied. Recommendations in several reports were not closely aligned with business realities. Furthermore, during the Q&A sessions, some students struggled to explain or clarify their findings, despite including them in their reports. This underscored the importance of thoroughly understanding the accounting concepts under study, ensuring that students can both “present what they know” and avoid relying solely on memorization without real comprehension.

At the conclusion of the defenses, the Faculty recognized and awarded certificates to the top-performing students from each panel:

Panel 1: Vo Đuc Thuan – Student ID: 221H0230

Panel 2: Bui Kim Ha – Student ID: 221H0019

Panel 8: Pham Gia Bao – Student ID: 220H0320

The thesis defense sessions not only marked an important academic milestone for students but also provided valuable feedback from the panels. These insights will help students strengthen their professional knowledge, research skills, and confidence as they prepare to transition into the workplace.
